[영상] 중국, 에티오피아에 코로나 백신 80만 도스 기부

중국이 기부한 코로나 백신 시노팜 총 80만도스가 지난달 24일 에티오피아 수도인 아디스 아바바에 도착해, 동아프리카의 백신 접종에 힘을 실었다.

중국은 지금까지 180만회분 이상의 코로나 백신을 에티오피아에 기부했는데, 에티오피아 정부 측은 기부된 백신이 바이러스 예방에 중요한 역할을 했다고 밝혔다.

기증된 백신의 전달식에는 에티오피아 정부 고위 관리들과 이디오피아 수도에 있는 중국 외교계 인원들이 참석했다.

리아 타데세 에티오피아의 보건장관은 신화통신과의 인터뷰에서 백신 접종자들이 미접종자들보다 코로나에 덜 취약하다는 것을 보여주는 자료가 있기에, 중국이 기부한 백신의 효과가 입증되었다고 말했다.

자오즈위안 주 에티오피아 중국 대사는 중국이 기부한 백신이 코로나 예방, 대유행의 영향으로부터 경제 회복, 그리고 국민의 건강을 보호하는 에티오피아의 노력에 중요한 역할을 하고 있다고 전했다.

에티오피아 보건부의 최근 통계에 따르면, 에티오피아는 지금까지 321만 1211명의 사람들에게 총 428만 6768회 복용량을 투여했다. 또 코로나팬더믹으로 인한 사망자 수가 6347명에 달함에 따라 에티오피아에서 확인된 코로나 환자 수는 36만 2088명에 달했다.

중국에서 가장 많이 투여되는 코로나 백신 중 하나인 시노팜 또한 에티오피아인들 사이에서 점점 더 많은 관심을 얻고 있다.

백신을 세계 공공재로 만들겠다는 약속의 일환으로, 중국은 현재 에티오피아를 포함한 개발도상국의 백신 접근성과 가격 면에서 중요한 역할을 하고 있다.

중국은 올해 전 세계에 20억회분의 코로나 백신을 제공하고 코백스(COVAX Facility; 세계 백신 공동 분배 프로젝트)에 1억달러(한화 약1조 원) 를 제공할 예정이다. 코백스에 들어가는 1억달러는 주로 개발도상국에 대한 백신 보급에 쓰일 예정이다.

ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 25 - The latest batch of Chinese-donated Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines, totaling 800,000 doses, arrived in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa on last Sunday, giving a boost to the East African nation's vaccination efforts.

China has so far donated in excess of 1.8 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to Ethiopia, which the Ethiopian government said has played an important role in combating the virus.

The handover ceremony for the donated vaccines was attended by senior Ethiopian government officials and members of the Chinese diplomatic community in the Ethiopian capital.

Speaking to Xinhua on Sunday, Ethiopia's Minister of Health Lia Tadesse said the Chinese-donated vaccines have proved effective, as data shows that vaccinated people are less vulnerable to COVID-19 than unvaccinated ones.

Zhao Zhiyuan, Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia, said that the Chinese-donated vaccines are playing a crucial role in Ethiopia's efforts in combating COVID-19, restoring the economy from the impact of the pandemic, and protecting people's health.

Ethiopia has so far administered a total of 4,286,768 doses to 3,211,211 people, according to the latest figures from the country's ministry of health.

According to the ministry, the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country reached 362,088 as the death toll from the pandemic reached 6,347.

Chinese-donated vaccines, as one of the most administered COVID-19 vaccines in the country, are also gaining growing interest among Ethiopians.

As part of its commitment to make its vaccines a global public good, China is presently playing a crucial role in terms of vaccine accessibility and affordability in developing countries, including Ethiopia.

China will strive to provide 2 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses to the world throughout this year and offer 100 million U.S. dollars to COVAX. The 100 million U.S. dollars to COVAX will mainly go to the distribution of vaccines to developing countries.
