교육부는 지난해 도입한 일반대학 온라인 학위과정 제도를 시행할 대학원 20개 석사과정을 선정·승인하고 그 결과를 30일 발표했다.

일반대학 온라인 학위과정은 대학에서 교육부의 승인을 받아 전체 학위과정을 100% 온라인으로 운영할 수 있는 제도로 지난해 2월 신설됐다. 2022학년도 현재 5개 석사과정이 온라인 학위과정으로 운영 중이다.

원격수업 스튜디오를 운영해 대면수업과 유사한 학습환경을 제공하고 실시간 코딩실습 프로그램, 인공지능 기반 부정방지 시스템 등 다양한 학습도구를 활용하는 등 교육기술(에듀테크)에 기반한 디지털 혁신을 선도하고 있다고 교육부는 설명했다.

교육부는 이같은 성과를 바탕으로 제도 도입 이후 두 번째로 심사를 진행, 대학 17개교의 20개 석사과정 운영을 추가 승인했다.
 
이번 심사를 위해 고등교육(원격교육), 경영·행정, 인문사회, 이공, 어문, 종교 등 다양한 분야의 전문가로 심사위원회를 구성하고 각 대학이 제출한 운영계획을 교육과정의 우수성, 대학 내 원격수업 질 관리 체계, 원격수업 설비 등의 측면에서 서면·대면심사를 통해 종합적으로 심사가 이뤄졌다.

승인된 과정들은 1차 승인된 전공과 유사하게 확장 가상세계(메타버스) 캠퍼스, 가상현실 콘텐츠, 온라인 모둠(팀) 협업도구 등 다양한 교육기술(에듀테크)을 활용해 오프라인과 유사한 교육적 실재감을 확보하고 학습 효과를 극대화하는 운영 계획이 제시됐다.

교육부는 다수의 대학에서 온라인 학위과정 제도와 대학별 특성화 전략을 연계하는 등 교육환경과 여건에 따라 디지털 혁신과 다양한 혁신방안을 결합해 함께 추진하고 있음을 확인할 수 있었다고 밝혔다.

이번 심사를 거쳐 선정된 학위과정이 양질의 원격수업을 안정적으로 제공될 수 있도록 교육부와 운영 대학은 지속해서 협력할 계획이다.

선정된 대학은 대학 내 원격교육관리위원회, 원격교육지원센터 등을 활용해 온라인 학위과정의 질을 철저히 관리하게 된다.

교육부는 주기적인 운영대학 협의회를 통해 기존 운영대학의 운영 경험을 신규 선정 대학에 전수하고 상호 협력할 수 있도록 지원하는 한편, 디지털 혁신을 가속화하기 위한 제도개선도 지속해서 추진한다.

또 2024학년도 이후 운영을 계획하고 있는 첨단분야 학사과정, 외국과의 공동교육과정을 운영하는 학사과정에 대해서는 새해 1월 30일까지 신청서류를 접수하고 1분기 내에 심사를 마칠 계획이다.
